I’ve been wanting to share our story for so long thru video. But…whew, hard life seems to disrupt daily in God’s providential plan. So.. I think I’ll start sharing something.
Last December God opened the door for a beautiful three acre property with 8 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a beautiful working plantation with every sort of food we need, and manicured lawns that people always ask “do you do weddings here?” Well… the bridal shop is one of the micro businesses we will use to help support the work here. What I had to realize is it’s not as easy as I thought. When I came to this foreign land, everything was foreign. I liken it to our spiritual rebirth, or being a baby. When you are born again, or a newborn, you start as a baby and mature as you grow up. That goes both ways. I’m in a foreign land, where even communication can be directly opposite of what I know. To those I minister to, it’s just as new. Our mission is sustainability. It’s not for me to start businesses and run them here. Its not to give a hand out but a hand up. It’s to train and empower local people to run and sustain their businesses and for us to sustain the work here. A bridal shop and guest house are midterm goals and I’m confident God will provide when he will provide. What is truly amazing, and how God led me to that realization, is how he is providing in our garden. People know how to farm here. We have some wonderful ladies that have stepped up and are learning to manage a large plantation. They already know how to farm. I’m learning Ugandan agriculture from them and we are learning Farming God’s Way together. I’m working with others teaching them the business side. In less than two months they have that almost mastered. We are empowering our mamas thru projects, as the Lord leads. The garden is our current project, and for the past month and a half the garden is sustaining itself. It pays two of our ladies every week to garden. When our mamas come they get reduced rates on fruit and veggies they sell. When they bring a customer they get paid every time that customer comes back. One or two people will help each customer harvest and then they also get paid, according to how much is sold. Two of our ladies made extra income by bringing customers and helping them harvest what they buy. It’s a way of adding to their income as they invest a little time. It’s so exciting to see how God is helping each of us learn how to serve one another cross-culturally. We now have clean water, thanks to you all, so we are hoping that will be the next project, since that is also a big need here. We will continue to move forward on the bridal shop and guest house. Things are moving forward there but slower because they are bigger projects and the training takes longer. We will get there by God’s Grace and in his time. On the sanitary pad project, three ladies learned sewing well, two received sewing machines. One is using ours. They are all earning some income from sewing. . My desire is still to go into schools with the pads and share on human dignity, the Gospel and pass them out, but it’s for me to train others and not to do it myself so that is a midterm goal. The lady on the right in the photo is our best customer, Joy. (Permission granted to post on all our photos we share) She’s with her daughter. We give her great prices and she is now praying God will give her a permanent place to set up a stand. She now walks and sells. Pray God will bless her in business. Thank you so much for all your support. With your help we are changing lives here.

WOW!!! What a day! We woke up with a plan, but God again had a different plan. I stand in awe at how much God’s infinite wisdom and sovereignty is also his divine protection for us. He begins a work in us, and that work requires faith. Faith that obeys without seeing the entire picture.
Just yesterday I was sharing with a staff member how often we get one step at a time because if God showed us the entire plan we would say “no thanks” because it’s too much for us to handle. That’s his divine protection. But his infinite wisdom leads us one step at a time and once we say yes there is no turning back. We must now move on, in faith, trusting His plan. I just shared my heart with you for medical care for our families. “Our” plan was to finish paying school fees and see if something was left to see if we could get some kids evaluated. My thought was a few months into the future. Well… we learned by 8:30 a mama and the kids were again too sick for school or work. We made the decision to take them to a new hospital that has unbelievable rates (truly a God ordained hospital). Once we got there, with five sick ones in tow, I was overwhelmed by the quick reality of what my heart’s desire to provide for medical was going to look like. I’m thinking complete blood work, treatment, everyone gets better. But that’s not how things go here. Years of untreated illness is not cured by a round of medicine. As we left, 7 hours after leaving home, I was overwhelmed by God’s mercy of not showing us the plan before we went. We cannot turn back from what he has called us to. We can only go forward. I’m learning so much how to surrender my plans to the Lord, not freak out when I realize how big the problem is and how little my ability is to handle it. I’m learning only he can solve these big problems and it will all be ok. He will meet every need we have according to his glorious riches and not my anxious heart. We left with every person having H. Pylori, one with Bilharzia, one with problems with the ears, one needing a cancer screening and several with other lesser conditions. WOW!!! But, our great God provided the funding thru one of you, and we came back with $.33. I’m so thankful for my family coordinator who makes sure we get to where we need to be. I could never get to these remote places, and medical problems are not 9-5. I know we don’t have to worry about tomorrow. Today has enough trouble of its own. Tomorrow God will show us his plan and we will walk thru the day trusting that he will again work it all out. Please pray for wisdom as we move forward in this new direction he is taking us. Pray for bodies to be healed and strengthened, proper diagnoses of each person, healing in their bodies and strength and wisdom for staff. When children are so sick and hungry all the time they cannot focus on learning. I believe God is going to restore health and improve the lives of these families spiritually, physically, emotionally and educationally. Every child should have a chance to learn, free from continual sickness and hunger. Oh how thankful I am God for your divine protection in leading us only one step at a time so we can handle it. Thank you for caring for each one of us individually and for making a way. Thank you for helping us to trust you more and more each day. You are an amazing God. They are spending the night, or nights, so I can help mama who is sick. We will make a plan to make sure all meds are sorted out and schedules for each the next two weeks of meds. Yesterday was a very special Easter celebration. Not only did we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus from the grave but because of you we were the hands and feet of Jesus to over 50 People in a miraculous way.
The Bible says that faith without action is a dead faith. When you are born again something inside changes (you now have the very spirit of God living in you) and you begin to live for others and not just yourself. My staff (most of whom are also families we serve) worked so hard to help prepare and serve our families. Several mamas came and cooked. We had games, gave manicures and pedicures, ate lots of food and shared with out mamas that school fees are paid so they could breathe a little easier as school begins tomorrow. We are so thankful to every one of you who joined with us in helping these kids go to school and helping to relieve the incredible and often hopeless burden these mamas face as they try to figure out how to keep their children in school one more term. Your support means more than we can even express. It is truly life changing and i could see a visual relief on their faces. It was a wonderful day. Thank you!!! Look what your donations have helped these kids achieve.
Harmony Community School has a desire for every Ugandan child to receive a quality education. They blessed 13 of our students this term with reduced rates, grace when parents couldn’t bring school supplies and your donations gave them the gift of education. Look at the great report cards. Please consider giving a scholarship to these kids to continue next term. Education is out of reach for most people here. God has opened doors for you and I to provide this gift to 26 children. Please help us give the gift of education to these children. $50 per child monthly or $1800 for the next term. Thank you!!! |
