We were able to take three families to hospital today thanks to friends who donated for medical needs.
One baby had malaria. She was given four medications. One mama got lab work done to check her thyroid levels. She hasn’t had them checked since December due to lack of funds. Doctor recommended she see an endocrinologist and have surgery. For now she received medication for a month so we can see where she’s at when she is on medication consistently. Another mama was seen for dental issues. She needs a root canal and one tooth extracted. We have funds to extract the tooth and will pray for the rest. We’ve been so blessed by friends who donated for medical needs. We serve ten families, about 60 people total. We do not have a budget for medical so when money is donated we are able to help so much with medical care. God is good. Thank you to everyone who helps these beautiful families.

I realized something today. Sacrificing time and money are easy. Sacrificing the heart takes everything we have, especially when the heart has been hurt. We want to close it off and run away.
How did Jesus do it? Yes, he was God but he was also fully human. Every day he had thousands pulling and tugging on him, loving him, hating him, wanting to get what they could out of him. Yet he never gave up on them. He continually offerred his heart and more love than any of us will ever be able to experience or give. So much that he lost his life for it. Are we willing to lose our life over the pain and hurt of others? I was reading Psalm 37 this morning. I see so many around me today, in person and on FB, who are focused so much on criticizing others instead of focusing on making their own lives better and those around them. We criticize others because we've been hurt. That's not the answer. It's easy to be hurt and mad. It takes strength and courage to continue to sacifice the heart over and over again. It can only be done by continuing to trust the Lord with our pain and allow him to bring beauty out of the ashes. What if we all left the lives of others up to God and focused on making sure we are doing what is right? What if, instead of gossiping and criticizing people, we focus on being the best we can be and helping the one next to us be the best they can be? Many times Jesus said to his disciples, those closest to him, OH, how long do I have to put up with you, or... oh, you of little faith, or...what's it to you what your brother is doing, etc. He was so weary at times, but that never stopped him from giving his all. May we not make Jesus weary but focus on being the best that he created us to be. Let's try to find the good in others and in ourselves and leave the rest to God. Psalm 37:1-6 "Don't worry about the wicked or envy those who do wrong. For like grass, they soon fade away. Like spring flowers, they soon wither. Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper..." "He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn, and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun." "Unless you turn and become (begin to be like) like little children, you will never inherit the kingdom of God." Matthew 18:3 Thank you so much for those who gave money for medical.
We were able to take Scovia's daughter to the hospital for a checkup yesterday. They found severe malaria, and we were told that with that can come the lump. She is being treated for malaria. Mama is sick today so she will go be tested and treated. Mary is still very weak. She has not been able to eat and is losing weight again. She is getting injections and will go back to finish the last injection and get a checkup. We gave her some food today since she used all her money for the trip to the hospital for the surgery that didn't happen. We're praying God will provide enough money for her to have her surgery so she can get better. Please continue to pray for all of our families that are sick. Pray God will keep those well who are well, and pray for protection from Covid that is increasing in Uganda. Thank you! Our goal is self-sustainment and not dependence. Unfortunately for some of these ladies it's two steps forward and four steps back. Would you please consider helping us with some medical expenses. In addition COVID has hit this village. We have huge needs right now and the health is deteriorating because TTWWK cannot meet the needs. Read on to find out more. The medical issues so overwhelm some families that everytime they get begin to get ahead they're hit again with health problems that they cannot even go to the hospital for and TTWWK cannot possibly begin to address or afford the bills. We just finished paying off the hospital for another bill this week. Mary almost died last year, when she was hospitalized for her thyroid condition. She has a husband who's a drunk and comes and goes as he pleases. Sometimes he provides money for food and sometimes not. We paid the hospital bill last year and have continued to help with some medications, but cannot afford it all and neither can she so she has been without medication again for some time. We decided to empower her two months ago so she could begin to provide for herself. She was doing good and getting her meds, with help from TTWWK. She found an organization that was going to do her surgery for her goiter and last month we contributed some money for the expenses to Kampala for the surgery. Unfortunately, the organization wasn't legitimate and she ended up coming back, after spending most of the money for transportation for her and the person who would care for her while in the hospital. Hospitals do not provide food, medicines, blankets, etc. They tell you what you need for medicines and you go buy it at a pharmacy. Mary is sick again and getting worse. COVID has reached the village she lives in. There have been two mysterious deaths of young people. But due to lack of funds there's never an autopsy to find out why. Uganda just locked down this week, children sent home from schools, business, transportation coming to a near halt again. Mary really needs to be seen, as well as some others in our ladies circle. We have a child of one of our ladies that has a huge painful lump on her side...but no money to be seen. I've been trying to save for some medical but other issues keep coming up. Right now I have $7.35 for medical. We are so blessed in America. We will spend $50-$150 on one meal out, thousands on a vacation and so much more. This is not a guilt trip, but we really need to get these ladies and kids seen. I'm asking my friends for help. I'd like to raise $500-$1000 to help get through this next surge of COVID and be able to get some of these current medical needs addressed. I have spoken with a hospital that thinks they can do Mary's surgery for about $300, but we haven't even had the consultation yet. Covid testing over there right now is $71 each. (we would like to test two right now) Blood work for Mary for her thyroid is $50. A doctor's consult for those that need it (3 people at the moment) is $3.00 each. The daughter with the lump with the lump will probably need a scan, around $50 I think. Then who knows what treatment after that. Then add medications on top of that: (for Covid right now Ivermectin is almost $12.00.) I'd like to get Zinc, Vitamin C, Vitamin D3 for preventative for our families and staff. Probably over $100 for everyone. $500 won't even cover it but we are so thankful for anything we can get. We need to move forward with these medical needs. Think if your family was sick and you had no way to even pay $3.00 for a doctor visit, let alone treatment. It breaks my heart. We can help them. God has placed about 12 families in my life in Uganda and I cannot do it alone. Thank you for considering this. You can read more on the photos. ![]() This is Mary when I first met her. She was so sick and so thin. Her hospitalization in December. It took us several hours just to get something to bring her fever down. Alyssa was so concerned for her. This was in March, a month after we empowered her. She was doing so good. She had put on weight and looked so good.
I've been told by several here in Uganda that it can take several years to find your place and true calling in Africa. This past trip I feel like I have clarity on what God wants us to do over there and so we filed paperwork to become an NGO in Uganda. The purpose of this post is for prayer, but I want to share a few thoughts so you'll understand the significance of the need for your prayers. The photos posted here are some of the ladies we are ministering to at this time. The goal and the purpose of empowerment is to create sustainability and not dependency for them. They are each uniquely created in the image of God and they have all the resources within themselves and their community to achieve their full purpose. In order for them to truly succeed this requires not only addressing the issue of poverty but the entire worldview behind it. As I've been praying and meditating on what this will look like as we begin a new work in Uganda I've come across some great literature that lines up with my vision of creating an organization birthed from a Biblical world view that involves four key components. These line up with my understanding of how Jesus would want us to serve "the least of these” and the need for prayer. "To understand the relationship between world view and development, one needs to examine the example of Jesus’ own development in Luke 2:52: “Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and in favour with God and men.” Jesus’ development involved growth in the intellectual or mental aspect (wisdom), in the physical aspect (stature), in the spiritual aspect (in favour with God), and in the social aspect (favour with men). These four core areas are the core of any meaningful development effort and shape the process and strategies we use as key players in the community development process, shape dialogues and activities around the approaches to be taken, determine the indicators for measuring success from the community’s perspective, as well as shape how those activities lead communities to transformation." ~World Vision The article mentioned above lines up with core values of TTWWK, to empower and strengthen families spiritually, physically and emotionally. It is discipling the whole person. Here is my prayer as I prepare to return to Uganda, taken also from the literature I'm reading. Please pray for spiritual preparedness on my part and on the part of those in our organization. Pray that we will be moving towards achieving sustainable change and significantly improving the social and spiritual well-being of children and their families. Pray he will guide every single step and we will hear his voice say “this is the way. Walk in it.” God hears and answers. We just need to ask. Thank you so much!!! Alinda has been very successful in our program. She wants to own her own shop one day. Nalongo wants to buy land and provide a safe home and education for her children. Mary wants her house completed and Esther wants to be a successful business woman so she can empower others to succeed.
I am so thankful to my assistant Marie for donating her paycheck to help fix Carol’s home. The work has begun. I hope to have photos soon.
Carol has dirt floors and the ants are so bad they crawl in the beds at night and bite the family. Homes of Hope, a ministry of YWAM, will put in concrete floors and make the home safer for the family. This ministry provides free labor for projects. I'm so grateful for this wonderful ministry. What a blessing to this mama. "Hope also often takes time to mature. On the whole, quick fixes are no match for protracted suffering. Instead, the story of hope is often a long one, with unexpected turns and twists, steps forward and often back too. Time can be both a threat and a friend to hope. Injustice, for example, has to be tediously dismantled, not exploded. This is often infuriating, but it is true.
Hope is more like a treatment plan than an adjustment: in other words, hope takes time to shift toward healing." ~Culture Care This beautiful lady is doing so good. This is Alinda. In February of this year we provided her with charcoal and bananas to jumpstart her business. I'm so excited to announce that since day one Alinda has been able to provide for herself and her family. Each week she has stories and testimonies of all that God is doing. She began with two products. In a week she had added five new products. Now look at her stand. She's bursting at the edges. Not only is she doing well with her stand, she has done so well selling the liquid soap she just learned to make that she will begin making it on her own next week. She's also learning to sew on the sewing machine. Her sewing skills are so near perfect that she is now helping others in the program with their sewing. She is emerging as a strong leader in the group. We hope to meet with her this week and see what her goals are for the future and how we can help her get to the next step. Please pray that God will continue to open doors for her and that He will give her the desires of her heart. I'm so glad to know her. She is an amazing, strong, successful woman. The first charcoal and bananas we gave her. A week later she had sold all the charcoal and bananas, purchased more and added five new products. One week after receiving her products. About a month ago. This week. She's amazing. Alinda on the left with her daughter next to her.
I received a letter yesterday from the teacher of Herbert and Peace, the two students that we are sending to school at ATK International. I hope you'll read his letter below.
For reference while reading the letter, Herbert is 14 and was no longer in school due to lack of funds. He was learning a trade. Now he is in school and hopes to be a doctor. "Hi mum, Praise the Lord! This is teacher Richard of your daughter Peace and your son Harbert from ATK. We thank God for the gift of life that He has blessed us with and the protection against our enemies. Your pupils ( Harbert and Peace) today asked me to send you greetings in Jesus Name and promises to concentrate in studies. Mum, it was today that i came to learn that your son was doing some kind of welding( fabrication)and that his minds had concentrated there, but now he says he wants to study, Mum indeed we thank you for all these changes in the lives of young people, may the Good Lord fulfills the desires of your heart. Peace, can now read and speak good English with friends at school, something she could not do before you admitted her at ATK, Oooh what a change you have put in her life!! Indeed you came to change the community (Matthew 28:19) We pray that the Lord may open His treasure for you mum to change more in Africa. I wish you a blessed day- Mum Dawn. Tr. Richard Such wonderful news. On another note, some of the other students in our program have been sent home due to unpaid school fees. TTWWK has decided to start making monthly payments, along with their mamas, so that their children can stay in school. Do you know that a family will sacrifice food in order to send their children to school? Yes, they will go to school hungry, but at least they will be in school. If you would like to help with the monthly fees, that would be wonderful. For now we will split $50 monthly between our families. Thank you. |
