They are hard at work in the garden, even the kids love to help. Due to lack of rain most have lost crops (including us) so we will prepare for next season’s crops.
We praise God that he has opened the door for another guest coming next week. That will be such a blessing to the ministry. God often doesn’t provide in ways we imagine but if we continue to have eyes to see and ears to hear we will still see his hand prints in everything we do. “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard.” Psalm 19:1

Wow, I realized it's been a week since I posted. That's a long time for me. Everything is ok. It was just a tough week in Uganda last week and sometimes it's hard to know how to express it. What I will say is how awesome God is.
The beginning of the year I was worrying about how "I" was going to "do it all." He spoke in my heart and said He was going to show me his power this year. Well, if you've been following us you can see how God has been so powerfully been working these past six months. Last week was no exception. We had six sick family members and many who have lost crops due to lack of rain. That brings so many other problems for our families. But God provided all we needed... even before we knew we would need it. Part of it came through one of you and part of it by God bringing guests to our Ugandan guest house after we decided not to host this summer while I was in the US. So by the power of God, six family members were seen and treated medically, and all our families received rice, beans and posho. This year has been such an incredible season of being stretched in my faith and growing in trusting God to overcome challenges I never could have imagined having. Thank you Friends for walking this journey with us. Thank you Lord for blessing the fruit of our labor in Uganda. We are so, so grateful!!! So this is exciting, and good news among so much “life.” This is my amazing team!!! More about them on the photos. I have shared with you before about finding ways to generate income within the country to help run the ministry. We have several projects we are working on, two of which are going well. We also have a guest house. There was so much that still needed to be done and I couldn’t do it before I left so I decided to wait over the summer (the busiest season), leave the list for staff, and if the Lord brings people we would open our doors. Praise the Lord, we are hosting four missionaries over the next week. My team, along with a friend in town who runs a guest house, have been working hard this month preparing and getting everything beautiful for guests arriving in about 24 hours. What a great God we serve. He always knows the right time. I'm in awe of his faithfulness. In 2016 I thought our home in Colorado Springs would to be for missionaries but God’s plan was not for CO but Uganda. It’s amazing to watch him fulfilling the vision he put in my heart four years ago for a guest house here. Pray for God’s grace as our team hosts their first guests alone. They will do great. If you know people heading to Uganda we would love to host them. Here is the link to our place. https://abnb.me/yoERPoBMPqb Nalongo is our ministry chef. Solomon keeps us safe. Tom, Suzan and Sirina help run our ministry programs and income generating projects.
![]() Some days the pain is so much to bear, and yet I stand in awe of how God is able to comfort and move us forward one step at a time. We spent Saturday night in the hospital with one of our mothers who is very sick. We went to pick another family up for church yesterday and mama was too weak to go with. I wept thru chuch as her child slept on my lap knowing the reality of death in this place and praying God will bring healing. Then as we were we dropping everyone off after a long day, we found this mama in the market selling hard boiled eggs. Something she does every night after leaving her day job. I asked why she was working. She should be home resting. She said “I need to work, mom. I need to buy vegetables for the kids.” I again wept silently as I dropped the rest off, went home and crawled bed trying again to process the daily reality of our families here. I went to bed interceding and praising God for the opportunity to serve these beautiful families and and feeling so thankful for each one of you who Continue to bless us thru your encouragement, prayers, financial support and so much more. Please pray for these ladies. We will take several back for checkups this week and will consider how to get to the root of the long term conditions. Praise God for the hard and yet wonderful door he has opened to treat our sick ones. Pray for favor and the day when they can walk down the road feeling strength in their bodies as the work to care for their young ones. I’ve been wanting to share our story for so long thru video. But…whew, hard life seems to disrupt daily in God’s providential plan. So.. I think I’ll start sharing something.
Last December God opened the door for a beautiful three acre property with 8 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a beautiful working plantation with every sort of food we need, and manicured lawns that people always ask “do you do weddings here?” Well… the bridal shop is one of the micro businesses we will use to help support the work here. What I had to realize is it’s not as easy as I thought. When I came to this foreign land, everything was foreign. I liken it to our spiritual rebirth, or being a baby. When you are born again, or a newborn, you start as a baby and mature as you grow up. That goes both ways. I’m in a foreign land, where even communication can be directly opposite of what I know. To those I minister to, it’s just as new. Our mission is sustainability. It’s not for me to start businesses and run them here. Its not to give a hand out but a hand up. It’s to train and empower local people to run and sustain their businesses and for us to sustain the work here. A bridal shop and guest house are midterm goals and I’m confident God will provide when he will provide. What is truly amazing, and how God led me to that realization, is how he is providing in our garden. People know how to farm here. We have some wonderful ladies that have stepped up and are learning to manage a large plantation. They already know how to farm. I’m learning Ugandan agriculture from them and we are learning Farming God’s Way together. I’m working with others teaching them the business side. In less than two months they have that almost mastered. We are empowering our mamas thru projects, as the Lord leads. The garden is our current project, and for the past month and a half the garden is sustaining itself. It pays two of our ladies every week to garden. When our mamas come they get reduced rates on fruit and veggies they sell. When they bring a customer they get paid every time that customer comes back. One or two people will help each customer harvest and then they also get paid, according to how much is sold. Two of our ladies made extra income by bringing customers and helping them harvest what they buy. It’s a way of adding to their income as they invest a little time. It’s so exciting to see how God is helping each of us learn how to serve one another cross-culturally. We now have clean water, thanks to you all, so we are hoping that will be the next project, since that is also a big need here. We will continue to move forward on the bridal shop and guest house. Things are moving forward there but slower because they are bigger projects and the training takes longer. We will get there by God’s Grace and in his time. On the sanitary pad project, three ladies learned sewing well, two received sewing machines. One is using ours. They are all earning some income from sewing. . My desire is still to go into schools with the pads and share on human dignity, the Gospel and pass them out, but it’s for me to train others and not to do it myself so that is a midterm goal. The lady on the right in the photo is our best customer, Joy. (Permission granted to post on all our photos we share) She’s with her daughter. We give her great prices and she is now praying God will give her a permanent place to set up a stand. She now walks and sells. Pray God will bless her in business. Thank you so much for all your support. With your help we are changing lives here. WOW!!! What a day! We woke up with a plan, but God again had a different plan. I stand in awe at how much God’s infinite wisdom and sovereignty is also his divine protection for us. He begins a work in us, and that work requires faith. Faith that obeys without seeing the entire picture.
Just yesterday I was sharing with a staff member how often we get one step at a time because if God showed us the entire plan we would say “no thanks” because it’s too much for us to handle. That’s his divine protection. But his infinite wisdom leads us one step at a time and once we say yes there is no turning back. We must now move on, in faith, trusting His plan. I just shared my heart with you for medical care for our families. “Our” plan was to finish paying school fees and see if something was left to see if we could get some kids evaluated. My thought was a few months into the future. Well… we learned by 8:30 a mama and the kids were again too sick for school or work. We made the decision to take them to a new hospital that has unbelievable rates (truly a God ordained hospital). Once we got there, with five sick ones in tow, I was overwhelmed by the quick reality of what my heart’s desire to provide for medical was going to look like. I’m thinking complete blood work, treatment, everyone gets better. But that’s not how things go here. Years of untreated illness is not cured by a round of medicine. As we left, 7 hours after leaving home, I was overwhelmed by God’s mercy of not showing us the plan before we went. We cannot turn back from what he has called us to. We can only go forward. I’m learning so much how to surrender my plans to the Lord, not freak out when I realize how big the problem is and how little my ability is to handle it. I’m learning only he can solve these big problems and it will all be ok. He will meet every need we have according to his glorious riches and not my anxious heart. We left with every person having H. Pylori, one with Bilharzia, one with problems with the ears, one needing a cancer screening and several with other lesser conditions. WOW!!! But, our great God provided the funding thru one of you, and we came back with $.33. I’m so thankful for my family coordinator who makes sure we get to where we need to be. I could never get to these remote places, and medical problems are not 9-5. I know we don’t have to worry about tomorrow. Today has enough trouble of its own. Tomorrow God will show us his plan and we will walk thru the day trusting that he will again work it all out. Please pray for wisdom as we move forward in this new direction he is taking us. Pray for bodies to be healed and strengthened, proper diagnoses of each person, healing in their bodies and strength and wisdom for staff. When children are so sick and hungry all the time they cannot focus on learning. I believe God is going to restore health and improve the lives of these families spiritually, physically, emotionally and educationally. Every child should have a chance to learn, free from continual sickness and hunger. Oh how thankful I am God for your divine protection in leading us only one step at a time so we can handle it. Thank you for caring for each one of us individually and for making a way. Thank you for helping us to trust you more and more each day. You are an amazing God. They are spending the night, or nights, so I can help mama who is sick. We will make a plan to make sure all meds are sorted out and schedules for each the next two weeks of meds. Yesterday was a very special Easter celebration. Not only did we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus from the grave but because of you we were the hands and feet of Jesus to over 50 People in a miraculous way.
The Bible says that faith without action is a dead faith. When you are born again something inside changes (you now have the very spirit of God living in you) and you begin to live for others and not just yourself. My staff (most of whom are also families we serve) worked so hard to help prepare and serve our families. Several mamas came and cooked. We had games, gave manicures and pedicures, ate lots of food and shared with out mamas that school fees are paid so they could breathe a little easier as school begins tomorrow. We are so thankful to every one of you who joined with us in helping these kids go to school and helping to relieve the incredible and often hopeless burden these mamas face as they try to figure out how to keep their children in school one more term. Your support means more than we can even express. It is truly life changing and i could see a visual relief on their faces. It was a wonderful day. Thank you!!! Look what your donations have helped these kids achieve.
Harmony Community School has a desire for every Ugandan child to receive a quality education. They blessed 13 of our students this term with reduced rates, grace when parents couldn’t bring school supplies and your donations gave them the gift of education. Look at the great report cards. Please consider giving a scholarship to these kids to continue next term. Education is out of reach for most people here. God has opened doors for you and I to provide this gift to 26 children. Please help us give the gift of education to these children. $50 per child monthly or $1800 for the next term. Thank you!!! Last December I had a burden for clean water. With donations we were able to give each family a Medidrop tab for Christmas that would provide clean water for a year. This is the same company.
The burden for clean water did not leave. With the unfortunate illness from the parasite we now have clean water on the entire compound. We know God did not give it to us for just our personal use. Please pray he will show us his purpose for this amazing gift we have been given. Thank you so much to those who donated. What an amazing, great gift. They will be finished hopefully by end of the day. So this is happening… and I am concerned! I need your help!!! Bilharzia is the second worst parasite in Uganda. Malaria being first. I’ve had both and I feel bilharzia is worse It appears to be in the water system. Everyone is getting it. Every one of our families, kids, staff, and me and Alyssa have been sick. So many missionaries in my BS are struggling. Ugandan workers I’ve had in are talking about it. My intern from the US left with 24 hour notice because of it. Our Doctor here had it and said the water people are upset that they are questioned about it. Until it’s a pandemic it most likely will not be dealt with. I’m trying to find a way for Alyssa to come home. Until then, I had a water person come today. We can install a water system in the entire compound for $1500. I told him I don’t have have the money. The more I think about it the more I feel we need to do it. We still have the problem of going outside the compound but we can can only deal with one thing at a time. I hate to think of spending that type of money on water, but we cannot get rid of the parasite if ever source of water has it. We even started boiling water again. It feels like Covid all over again. I am not called to go home. There is too much good we are doing here and I want to continue the work God is calling us to. If you would like to help, please PM me and I’ll send the tax deductible link to give. Please read up on this and look at images. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/schistosomiasis/ These are three of our staff who have been very sick. They cannot afford to go to the doctor but all have the same symptoms. They test for malaria and typhoid, which are inexpensive, but they come back negative. They have the same symptoms of those who can afford bilharzia testing and it’s bilharzia. Unfortunately they cannot afford treatment but they keep going on and coming to work. If we can provide better water that week help. We’ll talk to families tomorrow about bathing with the treated water from the water tabs we have them.
