Today is a new day and God’s mercies are new, Amen?
I’ve been planning and excited about this training since it was announced in December. Two of our mamas are attending with me to learn the method. We learned yesterday that while an average 1 acre yield Farming the traditional way is 300kg per harvest, Farming God’s Way can yield 2500 to 3000kg. Subsistence Farming is the way of most here in villages. 300kg cannot even provide enough food for a family of four. But 2500-3000kg can feed the family, pay school fees and provide medical. Please pray this will be successful in our little plantation and will be considered by our families who farm. So excited to begin preparing our field on Monday for planting. My job was babysitting so our ladies can focus. They are very eager to go home and start and teach the other ladies about FGW. Pray for success in bringing this about and that others will want to learn. The purpose of FGW is to help the poor learn to use what they have to plant in the natural way God plants. One example is our forests. Nothing is done to them here and yet they are rich with vegetation. It makes so much sense and I’m excited to see the harvest.

The yellow thing on the floor between the two ladies is the diaper pattern we cut out of a sugar bag. We’ll start working on a prior. Thank you Brenda for the link to so many free patterns. We are using the “simple” one and modifying it some. We worked so hard today on the washable sanitary pads and also working on a pattern for washable diapers. They were tired by the end.
Please pray for strength for Nalongo. She came today and said she was so tired. She slept for hours on the kitchen floor while the sewing program was going on. She’s been working day and night, even while so sick last weekend. ![]() Nalongo is such a hard working lady. I called after church to see how she was feeling since she was so sick when we ran into her selling eggs in the center last night. She looked and felt terrible so I gave her some money to go to the clinic for treatment When I called after church she was in another village trying to get some more school supplies for her kids. These mamas work so hard to get a little money and then they buy another item on the school list. Today she bought a pair of shorts and leggings required for two of the kids. We cannot even imagine this in America. We go to Walmart, get our list and we’re done. We have another mama with six kids and two were sent home because they didn’t have their school supplies. Ugh!!! We drove Nalongo back to the village so she could buy charcoal with the rest of her salary and get another injection for malaria. Then she was going to work on her house. If you saw the photos yesterday, we dug one portion. She finished digging all around the house this morning. The perseverance these people have to have to work thru anything is astounding. And she looked so beautiful I had to get a photo. These are three of Nalongo’s six children and the ministry’s family coordinator, Tom.
These three are the happiest kids, always. Look at those smiles. oh I love them so much!!! I can’t wait until they are in their home. I’m so, so thankful for someone very close to me, who wishes to remain anonymous, for donating to help with the pit toilet and buy new furniture for them and help with school fees. I can’t wait to go shopping. It was such an wonderful day. I cannot stop chuckling at some of the things that happened.
My day started at 5 am with the kickoff to Pledge Talk with my friend and professional counselor Mark Oelze in KS. I cannot recommend PledgeTalk enough. Best communication program ever. And it’s ask free. PM if you want more details. It is in the US. Next I got to talk with my mom for 1/2 hour until the minutes ran out. We have been trying to figure out a good way to talk and I finally bought International minutes and it worked great. So good to catch up. Then we had interrupted staff meetings all morning as people came to buy from our garden. Whoever brings in the customers gets paid a little. Two of our ladies helped get the things from the garden and they got paid some. Out of what we earned today’s we were able to pay two of our ladies who came to dig, one for bringing the customer, one for helping take the customer around to gather food and even had a little left to put in the garden envelope for seeds for planting. The goal is for each micro business to fund itself and help provide income for our ladies and the community. while paying them I was able to train practically on business skills. We then had a quick lunch and off to help Nalongo with her home, eating chicken and chips (fries) on the ground in the dark and getting home around 9 pm. Time for bed so we can be prepared for our ladies program tomorrow where we will continue sewing washable sanitary pads, trying to figure out a good washable diaper pattern, Bible Study, savings program and just fellowshipping and enjoying community together Thank you all for your prayers and encouragement always. WOW, What an amazing day!!! We spent the day going to all the schools to pay the fees for January. When I counted, we paid for 26 students to go to school, 12 of whom were not in school. Praise the Lord!!! Amazing story here. This is Nalongo, one of our families we support. We hired her earlier this year to cook for the ministry. BTW, We have lost one of her supporters. Would someone like to sponsor her at $35 a month?
Because she has so many children it’s hard to find a place to rent. She had been working so hard to save and buy land. In September I personally helped her purchase land. She pays a potion of her salary each month to pay it off, which will take years Well… last week her landlord told her she had to move by the 15th. That was her fourth home in less than a year. She was so discouraged but I told her it’s time to build her house. God will make a way. Alyssa and I went to visit them yesterday to find this…. She has been cutting trees and is building her house. She’s such an amazing lady. She had about $10 from her rent and this is what she’s done. If you would like to donate to help her that would be wonderful. I have no idea how much it will cost but she will move in January 15. Praise the Lord!!! This Saturday we will go help build a house Today was our year end Christmas party. It was such, such a wonderful day. Thanks to some generous supporters we were able to provide each of our families with warm blankets, water purification tablets that last for a year, food, and backpacks filled with clothes, shoes, watches, toothbrushes, toothpaste and so much more. Eight ladies received certificates for successfully completing the Business course. At the end of the day some of the ladies shared with our family coordinator that getting food is nice but it’s gone in a day. Getting blankets and clean water are the best Christmas gift they could receive. They were so grateful to receive such beautiful gifts of love. Thank you for all your love and support of the work we are doing here. It is so needed and such a blessing. Merry Christmas to you all!!! We were told that blankets and clean water was such a blessing to our families. Typical Christmas gift is food, which gives them a Christmas meal. But this gift will last all year. All the families with their children. We serve 60 currently. Our Business training graduates and the trainers. Alyssa greeting the Business training team who came to give certificates. She was so happy to see the team.
I first met Petra when she showed up at my door looking for work, almost nine months so. I gave her food in exchange for work. She’s come a few times looking for work. Last week she showed up and told me the story of her special needs son. He was so hungry that he was crying all night and biting himself and pinching others. I had her work in the garden in exchange for food. She has come back every day this week and worked so hard. By the third days she told me he is no longer biting himself. He’s satisfied with food. After talking with our team we will enroll her in the program. We are excited to see what God is going to do in the new year. She is smart and has a good sense of business. She currently walks throughout the village daily looking for any kind of work When we asked her goals for 2022 she would like to earn capital to start a business. She has three children, one with special needs. We will try to see if we can find a program for him. Please pray that God will open doors for her and her son in the coming year. It would be so awesome to see him in an environment where he can thrive. This is Petra’s home. She keeps it very clean and she takes pride in what she has. She told us that they have come to try to tear it down, saying it is rubbish among the new homes. She pleaded with the local government to let her stay and they gave her time to build a new home. Of course this is impossible for her now so we pray God will continue to allow her to stay.
When we moved into our new home I told everyone that we will be finding many blessings as time goes on.
Yesterday we walked the back plantation that our landlord told me is now ours. OH MY LORD!!! The size of the garden and what we have there is beyond our expectation. There’s food that some of our ladies sell. We can sell to them at a reduced price so they earn more. We have food for Alyssa and me, food for the staff and programs, some for our ladies to sell and we were able to sell some in the community today. All the money earned will be put aside for seeds when it is time to plant again. We are able to pay our ladies that want extra work to harvest and get it ready for planting season in February. Four are pictured working the in the garden for us. It’s so exciting to see how God is providing. Our goal is to be able create projects to give ladies work and sustain the ministry. Please pray that God will be give us wisdom as we seek to be good stewards of all he has given to us. A couple days ago there was a post on a missionary website here in Jinja. A young man traveling the world was coming thru Jinja and will do filming in exchange for accommodations. I messaged and he arrived this morning from Nairobi.
He’s been to 147 countries in the last three years. He’s only 21. An amazing young man. What a blessing and a God thing. Wish all of our ladies had been here for this group photo, but these are pretty awesome. Our new friend Connor is on the left. |
